CHRISTIAN HYMNS

CHRISTIAN HYMNS

Singing is a wonderful gift to us. Biologically, we can say the flow of air inside our thorax leads to the production of sound. When we are happy, we can sing. If we look around, there are lots of songs with different styles and moods.

I have heard that about a song which was made during the death of the composer’s son. That song which is strictly based on strong faith is always a wonder. I still don’t know how a man can sing during his tough days. But it is proved that it was this faith which helped him overcome the situation. Michael Jackson, who introduced his own style of music to the world, has inspired many young people. Though we can see a variety of singing styles such as ramp, hip hop, etc, the preference of choosing between these styles varies depending on the mental conditions. A happy person would prefer melodious songs or rocking songs. But it is during the sad times, people really start to listen to the words of that song. We may feel amazed to hear an apt song of our moods. As we speak of a variety of songs around us, no one can ignore the presence of hymns.

Christian hymns are basically sung in churches during Sunday services, Easter occasions, Christmas, marriages etc. Christian hymns can be sung by choirs with four parts, namely soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Soprano may be sung alone, but all four parts bring the perfection. While we sing these hymns, one must remember that we are singing for Christ, the only King. Which means we should sing carefully and with that seriousness that we are singing for Christ,  And of course He is hearing. The main thing we have to remember is that Angels sing for Christ in heaven, and here on earth, we do. How glorious is that! While we sing, especially hymns and other spiritual songs, have these in mind. Remember Jesus, our true friend and our King is hearing this.

Here let me share with you some hymns which can be sung on special occasions. These are selected hymns which are sung widely around the globe. Let’s sing for the glory of our Lord.

HARK! WHAT MEAN THOSE HOLY VOICES

HARK! WHAT MEAN THOSE HOLY VOICES

HARK! What mean those holy voices
Sweetly sounding in the skies?
Lo! Th’ angelic host rejoices,
Londest hallelujahs rise.
                   2
Listen to the wondrous story
Which they chant in hymns of joy;
“Glory in the highest, glory!
Glory be to God most high.
                   3
“Peace on earth, good-will from heaven,
Reaching far as man is found;
Souls redeemed and sins forgiven;
Loud our golden harps shall sound.
                   4
“Christ is born! The great Anointed!
Heaven and earth His glory sing;
Oh receive whom God appointed
For your Prophet, Priest, and King!
                   5
“Hasten, mortals, to adore Him,
Learn His name and taste His joy,
Till in heaven ye sing before Him-
Glory be to God most high!”
                   6
Let us learn the wondrous story
Of our great Redeemer’s birth;
Spread the brightness of His glory,
Till it cover all the earth.

ROLLING DOWNWARD THROUGH THE MIDNIGHT

ROLLING DOWNWARD THROUGH THE MIDNIGHT

ROLLING downward through the midnight,
Comes a glorious burst of heavenly song;
“Tis a chorus full of sweetness-
And the singers are an angel throng.

“Glory! Glory…in the highest!
On the earth good-will and peace to men!”
Down the ages…send the echo;
Let the glad earth shout again!

2

Wondering shepherds see the glory,
Hear the word the shining ones declare;
At the manger fall in worship,
While the music fills the quivering air.

3

Christ the Saviour, God’s Anointed,
Comes to earth our fearful debt to pay-
Man of Sorrows, and rejected,

Lamb of God, that takes our sin away.
